WGHP-FOX8 has a rare opening for a Sports MMJ/Anchor. The new employee will be working in the heart of the ACC.   

Wake Forest, UNC, NC State and Duke are among the teams the FOX8 Sports team covers. With the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Motor Speedway right down the road from the station, the new employee will have the opportunity to cover elite athletes in their sport.

The FOX8 Sports team is highly motivated and productive during the year. We produce several 1-hour sports specials, a weekly NFL show and a weekly high school football show. If you’re willing to be a reporter,producer,editor, and anchor, sometimes all on the same day, we want you to join our team!

Duties and Responsibilities

• Produces and presents sports reports for all platforms
• Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
• Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required
• Must be able to create a sports rundown, write scripts and anchor a sportscast
• Generate story ideas, shoot, write and edit the story for broadcast
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
• Shoots video for sports features and highlights
• Assist the other sports anchors with video editing to complete daily sportscasts
• Maintains video equipment
• Edits video clips for television broadcasts and digital media content
• Writes stories for the website and other digital platforms
• Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Produce sports specials during the year
• Must be willing to work more than 40 hours a week

Requirements & Skills:

• A good attitude and good teammate with other members of the FOX8 sports department
• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• 2 years of commercial broadcast experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Minimum two years’ experience in sports reporting or anchoring (More or less depending on market size)
• Superior on-air presence
• Proficiency with computers
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Flexibility to work any shift
• A background check will be conducted before employment begins
