The Assistant News Director will take the editorial lead each day to develop multi-platform content that succeeds on air and digital while maintaining the WFMY News 2 brand.  As a station leader, you will lead, coach and motivate a team of producers, writers, reporters, anchors and photojournalists who are among the
best in the business.  A passion for producing great journalism with an emphasis on watchdog and advocacy work is critical for success in this role.  The Assistant News Director must have strong ethics, a solid producing background, a desire and ability to win the day and be an exceptional troubleshooter all while being able to generate unique content and produce specials.   

Responsibilities: 

  • Strategically lead the WFMY newsroom.
  • Clearly and consistently communicate an aggressive, focused vision for our product.
  • Build and grow an energetic, skill-rich, focused and innovative team.
  • Develop relationships with third parties to plan and implement successful content sharing partnerships.
  • Develop and plan projects and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
  • 2+ years previous news management experience required.
  • 5+ years producing experience required.
  • Demonstrated innovative leadership, communication and staff development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and act decisively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated digital and social media knowledge.
